Carnoustie Golf Links

20 Links Parade, Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, DD7 7JF

(+44) (0)1241 802270 | golf@carnoustiegolflinks.co.uk

Host to The Open on several occasions, Carnoustie Golf Links has a reputation as one of the finest golf courses in the world. The Championship course is now in the finest condition it has ever been. It was in The Barry Burn in 1999 that Frenchman Jean Van de Velde lost the chance of being Open Champion and a place in history.
The Burnside Course oozes character and from the back tees is a splendid test of golf. Many of the short holes would grace any links course anywhere in the world.
The Buddon Links is a fine complement to the other courses and it is worth playing as an introduction to links golf prior to tackling the more demanding Championship course.

Championship Course

Carnoustie Championship Course has hosted The Open Championship on seven occasions, as well as one Ladies Open and one Seniors Open. It is generally regarded as the toughest of the Open venues, but it is probably the fairest too. Without doubt though, Carnoustie Championship Course does have the toughest closing stretch of holes anywhere, and indeed anyone finishing the final four holes with no more than a bogey should be extremely content! The Open Championship will return to the Championship Course in 2018.

Burnside Course

The Burnside course is often overshadowed by its illustrious neighbour, but oozing with character throughout, the course is a splendid test of golf - especially from the back tees.. Many of the short holes would sit comfortably among the very best in Championship golf, with the 5th and 14th in particular providing dramatic challenges. The finish is also testing with the 17th proving to be one of the hardest par 4’s in golf, whilst many a score has been ruined by the out of bounds fence at the 18th. It was here in 1953 where the great Ben Hogan shot 70 to help him qualify for the Open Championship - a tournament which he subsequently won.

Buddon Links

The newest of the three courses, and originally designed by Peter Alliss and the late Dave Thomas, the Buddon Links course at Carnoustie was opened in 1979. Since then many changes have taken place including the most recent $1m investment in two new holes bringing the course up to a very testing par 68. The Buddon Links is a fine complement to the other courses and it is worth playing as an introduction to links golf prior to tackling the more demanding Championship course.
