Formed in 1877, Dornoch has now been a Royal club for over 100 years. Designed by the legendary Old Tom Morris who used the unique links-land features to create a magical golfing experience - the Championship course continues to be regularly ranked within the top 15 best courses in the world. And it’s not just the Championship course that benefits from the challenges that links-land throws up. The Struie course maintains its role as an enjoyable and entertaining course for the whole family, but one that tests even the lower handicap player. Royal Dornoch has a modern clubhouse and everyone is welcome to enjoy the facilities. We have a generously stocked bar and a restaurant serving anything from hot filled rolls to a full dinner menu.

Ostensibly the course itself is pretty straightforward: it is an out-and-back layout. Many of the greens, though, are built on natural raised plateau making approach play especially challenging. It is the raised domed greens that became the trademark of Dornochs most famous son, Donald Ross. Born in 1872, Ross became the clubs head green-keeper and professional. He later emigrated to the States and became one of the greatest golf course architects of all time. Many of his designs, most notably Pinehurst No.2, bear the hallmark of Royal Dornochs greens.

RANKING #7 "A truly remarkable and unique design"; "No matter how poor your relationship with your golf game, you will fall in love again here"; "Royal Dornoch is probably the only great championship links that you can really take to your heart"; "The course is to golfers what the North Star is to sailors - a reliable, unwavering companion - a beacon to guide you in your time of need."
There are many admirers of Royal Dornoch Struie Course, which is ranked in the UK top 50 links courses. The course originally opened as a 12 hole Ladies course in 1899 and opened to the present 18 holes in 1999. The work of Donald Steel and his design team back in the 1990s encapsulates natural Scottish Links golf, working with the natural landscape, local plant and wildlife, the layout incorporates many of the unique Dornoch features. Eoin Riddell and he ground staff team have worked hard at developing the course and to be the kind of course you can play every day and not get tired of.
