RANKING #13 "Its recent holding of the Irish Open was, save for the rain, an unmitigated success - very many of the visiting Professionals attested to the wondrous design of Harry Colt, a view shared by most visiting amateurs for many a year previous"; "This should be the first course listed on any itinerary of golf in Ireland"; "Fantastic golf course with great variety, a beautiful setting and full of the tradition and history of the game"; "On a good day, there may be nowhere nicer to play golf."

As its name suggests, the course is situated between the huge sand hills immediately along the Atlantic shore and the higher ground on which the Championship course is laid out. That is not to say the holes of the course are routed over anything like plain, level lying land, far from it, as the Valley has more than its fair share of the humps, hollows and undulations to be found on any links worthy of the name.
