New Accolade Confirms La Manga Club Among World’s Golfing Elite

Spain’s five-star La Manga Club is celebrating a new honour after being voted as one of the world’s top five golf resorts by one of the leading and most prestigious travel awards in the UK.

The luxury destination resort in Murcia, south-east Spain, was one of a select group of esteemed venues to be nominated in the ‘Best Golf Resort in the World’ category at the 2015 UltraTravel Awards, and the only destination in continental Europe to be shortlisted.

Top American resorts Pebble Beach and Pinehurst – both regular US Open venues – Fairmont St Andrews and the Gleneagles Hotel, host of last year’s Ryder Cup and the eventual winners, were the other venues to receive acclaim at the awards, which are organised by the Telegraph Media Group and voted for by readers of Ultratravel.

The accolade, the second year running that La Manga Club has been shortlisted, is the latest recognition to have been bestowed on the resort in the last 12 months which has seen the award-winning venue confirm its reputation as Europe’s premier golf and leisure resort.

Leading plaudits have included being named as Spain’s top golf hotel at the 2014 World Golf Awards and being voted the overwhelming winner of the best golf resort in Spain by readers of the leading UK golf magazine Today’s Golfer for the fourth year in a row.

“It’s always an honour for the resort to receive recognition and to have been named again alongside some of the best and most famous names in the world of golf is fantastic news,” said Jose Asenjo, general manager of La Manga Club.

“We are very proud of the high regard  that La Manga Club is held in by the worldwide golfing communtity. The accolade is testatment to the hard work of everyone and, through the dedication of our team and continual investment, we will continue to strive to deliver the best possible resort experience to all our guests.”

Set in an area three times the size of Monaco, La Manga Club is widely recognised as Spain’s flagship resort and continues to set the benchmark for sports and leisure destinations across Europe.

With facilities including three 18-hole championship courses, a nine-hole academy course and a new Leadbetter Golf Academy – the only one in mainland Spain – and having hosted the Spanish Open five times, the resort has enjoyed a rich golfing history since its inception in 1972, helping to establish it as a firm favourite with visiting golfers.

As well as outstanding golf facilities, La Manga Club’s extensive facilities also include a 28-court tennis academy, a new High Performance Sports Centre and 2,000m² spa and fitness complex, a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
