China Fleet Country Club To Install A New Irrigation System

China Fleet Country Club, in Cornwall, have just commenced the installation of a new £250,000 irrigation system on its 18 hole championship golf course. The work started in January and will be finished by the end of March ready for the busy golf season.

This install will provide every green and tee with the latest Toro sprinkler system and replace the existing 25 year old equipment. The Club made the decision to invest in a new system after a comprehensive inspection by independent irrigation consultants Irritech Limited, which outlined the need for renewal, and in turn backed up China Fleet’s strong desire to be one of the leading golf venues in the south west. The irrigation system is equipped with the very latest water conservation technology, and not only can it be controlled remotely by the head greenkeeper, but it has its very own weather station which will ensure the exact amount of water is used and nothing wasted (daily water application rates will be limited to turf grass evapotranspiration rates). This last point is important for the club as, since it achieved a Silver green tourism business award it is striving for the gold standard in sustainability.

Dean Bennett, General Manager said : “Our tees and greens are very important to us and although our fantastic greenkeeping team have excelled in keeping these areas up to our high standards, this system will enable us to take the course to the next level and give our members, golf breaks and societies the very best standard of golf course”

Contractors OCMIS are recognized throughout Europe for their work on golf courses and are well respected throughout the industry, they have been given this huge task with the objective of not disrupting play for the many golfers that visit the club, Managing Director Chris Aplin said “It is a pleasure to be working with China Fleet on this project, they have a very unique and beautiful course which will only be enhanced by the work we are doing “

The work is currently ahead of schedule and everyone at the golf club is looking forward to having the finished product in time for another busy golf season.
