Marathon Golfers Triumph In Davida’s Memory At St Mellion

Six hardy golfers have completed a 24-hour golf marathon at St Mellion International Resort in memory of Davida Gass, who passed away in 2014 after a battle with cancer.

Over 150 St Mellion members plus family and friends accompanied the six weary golfers up the 18th hole on the resort’s Jack Nicklaus golf course.

On the final green, Davida’s husband, professional golfer Darren Gass, gave an emotional speech of thanks to the gathered crowd after watching his 7-year old son Foster hole the last putt.

An auction afterwards featured sporting memorabilia such as a Chelsea FC shirt signed by the first team, a Manchester City shirt signed by Sergio Aguero, a Tour golf shirt signed by Lee Westwood and a cap & glove set signed by Ian Poulter.

Overall almost £10,000 has been raised for the CLIC Sargent children’s charity so far in Davida’s memory, including donations sent to a special page set up for the event at https://www.justgiving.com/Davida-Gass/.

David Moon, Golf Manager at St Mellion, said: “There were a few sore backs and blisters, but all six of us were proud to finish the 24-hour marathon – we finished 14 under par on the Nicklaus course by the end, which I think was a great achievement.

“The members at St Mellion were incredible” he said. “One of them even brought us tea and bacon rolls at three in the morning! The climax, at 6pm on the last green of the Nicklaus, was extremely moving, with young Foster holing the final putt in his Mum’s memory. We are so grateful for everyone’s support, and we hope that people will continue to donate on our Justgiving page”.
