Thorpeness Celebrates Winter Golf With Launch Of Seasonal Pass And Memberships

Thorpeness Golf Club and Hotel is celebrating its status as one of the UK’s most playable winter golf destinations with the launch of a new Winter Golf Pass and flexible Winter Memberships.

The James Braid designed heathland course has closed once in the last seven years due to bad weather and is known for maintaining exceptionally dry and playable conditions all year round.

The course is located on Suffolk’s Heritage Coast and benefits from a rare micro-climate that delivers unusually mild weather, one of the lowest average rainfall rates nationally and around three hours more sunshine per week than the rest of the UK.

Ian Willett, Head Greenkeeper at Thorpeness Golf Club and Hotel, said: “Thorpeness is blessed by both climate and geography which means our course is often in far better condition than many others in East Anglia and South East England throughout the Winter months.

When you add in the fact the course runs through a low-lying coastal plain and benefits from sandy soil then our fairways and greens dry quickly and stay firm and fast virtually all year round.”

Thorpeness is making its course even more accessible to visiting golfers by launching a new Winter Golf Pass. The pass costs £104 and guarantees four rounds of golf anytime between November and March 30, 2016. It can be used flexibly, either as a great-value fourball ticket or for individual rounds.

The Winter Golf Pass is only available to purchase until December 24th 2015 and is available to buy by contacting: proshop@thorpeness.co.uk or calling: 01728 454926.

Winter Golf Promise

Thorpeness is so confident that golfers will love the quality of its course and club that it is offering to refund the cost of its Winter Golf Pass to anyone who goes on to become a flexible Winter member (memberships start from £186) or joins its flexible, points based Jubilee membership scheme.

Thorpeness was one of the first golf clubs in the UK to establish a flexible points based membership, called Jubilee Membership, in 2000.

During the Winter, Thorpeness offers flexible membership starting from £186 guaranteeing a minimum of 42 units, equivalent to six rounds of golf midweek or five rounds played at weekends. Winter Members also have the option to top up at any time by purchasing additional units. The membership includes entry to the Suffolk Golf Union and the opportunity to hold a CONGU handicap.

Alongside the Thorpeness Winter Golf Pass and Winter Membership, golfers can choose to enjoy Thorpeness’ 36-bedroom golf hotel with Winter Golf Breaks from just £85 pp pn including unlimited golf, dinner, bed and breakfast.
