Scotland Boos To Boost La Manga Club Charity Week

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan will be among a host of stars and dignitaries who will gather at La Manga Club this summer to help the famous Spanish resort raise money in aid of under-privileged children in South America.

The former Celtic and Southampton boss played a leading role last year in helping La Manga Club raise around €20,000 for the Alda Foundation – which helps educate poor youngsters in Paraguay – and the award-winning venue is aiming to do even better for the charity when it stages a week of fundraising events from July 29 to August 4.

Strachan will join PY Gerbeau, La Manga Club’s non-executive chairman, in compering a glittering moonlit gala dinner including regional wines, live music, a charity raffle and auction for an audience of 250 dignitaries, guests and residents that will provide a spectacular finale to the week.

Launching the charity programme will be a family golf day on July 29, with golfers of all ages being offered the chance to compete in Texas Scramble pairs competition over the resort’s acclaimed South Course, the venue for five Spanish Opens. Entry costs €40 per adult and €20 per child.

Tennis fans of all abilities can enjoy a fun day at La Manga Club’s 28-court tennis centre 24 hours later with tournaments, a professional exhibition match and food and refreshments included in the entry price (€30 per adult and €15 per child).

And children have the chance to enjoy the same football facilties used by some of the world’s top teams including, most recently, Liverpool, on August 3 by taking part in a mini-junior ‘World Cup’ for boys and girls aged seven to 16. (costing €35 per child).

The Alda Charity Week will embellish a sporting and leisure extravaganza of activities and choice available to families when they take a holiday at La Manga Club this summer.

Included in these are the resort’s popular White Night evenings on July 21 and August 11 (is this happening again and when?), where guests have the chance to experience the spirit of Ibiza with moonlit beach dinner parties at the resort’s own Mediterranean cove with live cooking stations, cocktails, and chill-out DJ sets.

La Manga Club will also be hosting the official FC Barcelona Football Junior Club Camp for the fourth year running from July 24-28, while the resort has a wide range of sporting academies for children of all ages to enjoy over the coming months including tuition packages at its world-renowned tennis centre and recently-opened Golf Training Centre.

Widely regarded as Spain’s flagship resort, La Manga Club – which is also the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association – has won numerous leading accolades in recent years including being voted ‘Best Golf Resort in Spain’ by UK readers of Today’s Golfer magazine for the sixth year in a row.

A popular destination for some of sports most famous names, the resort’s other facilities three 18-hole golf courses, a 2,000m² luxury spa and fitness complex, a five-star hotel and a choice of four-star serviced apartments and townhouses, and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
