100 Holes In A Day For Breadsall Priory Golfers

Golfers at Marriott Breadsall Priory Hotel and Country Club recently took part in an 18-hour golf challenge, in a bid to raise funds for Umbrella, a local charity for disabled children. The fundraiser took place on Saturday 24 June, where Steve ‘Mr Captain’ Cousins – club captain at Breadsall Priory, Steve Turner – Breadsall Priory’s director of golf, club members and staff all partook in a challenge that saw 100 holes being played in one day.

Starting the challenge at 3.45am and holing their last putt at 10.00pm, the team collectively achieved 100 holes, 75,000 steps, 35 miles of walking, and 7,000 burnt calories. Supporting their efforts, local residents, colleagues and family and friends followed the team throughout their escapade, uplifting their spirits over the course of the gruelling day.

The charity event was the brainchild of Breadsall Priory’s club captain, Steve Cousins, who was keen to host a unique, but effective, fundraiser on behalf of Umbrella – a children’s charity based in Derby. Proving his efforts were not in vain, the weekend saw the team raise over £1,500 towards the trust.

Commenting on the day, Steve Turner, Breadsall Priory’s Director of Golf, said: “We had such a brilliant time during the challenge. It was an extremely long day, and very tiring, but it was well worth it. We’re all really pleased to have raised such an incredible sum for an important cause. Mr Captain has pulled off a great event, and I’m thrilled to have been a part of it. Well done to all involved!”

Umbrella seeks to help disabled children, young people, and young adults realise their full potential. The charity prides itself on empowering parents and carers by supporting them in the care of the disabled child, and providing exciting and stimulating activities, to encourage the development of key skills.
