A new tournament is giving UK golfers a chance to tee up alongside star names from the Ladies European Tour and The Solheim Cup.
The inaugural Thorpeness Ladies European Tour Pro-Am is a new venture from Thorpeness Golf Club and Hotel, Suffolk, and takes place from August 31 to September 1 with an impressive line-up from women’s professional golf.
England’s Trish Johnson, the 2017 Senior Women’s LPGA Champion and a veteran of eight Solheim Cup matches, will headline the event alongside Wales’ Becky Brewerton, a two-time Solheim Cup player and double LET winner.
They will be joined at Thorpeness by LET regulars Pamela Pretswell and Vikki Laing.
The new Pro-Am has been set-up by Christine Langford, Head Professional at Thorpeness Golf Club, a founding member and five-time winner on the Ladies European Tour.
Christine said: “Last week’s Solheim Cup in the USA was one of the best ever and showcased the quality of women’s professional golf to global audiences.
Now is a perfect time to launch a new event to give UK amateur golfers a chance to tee-up with Solheim Cup players and Tour players at one of the finest heathland golf courses in the South of England.”
The tournament is open to male and female amateur golfers who will play with two of the professionals in a 36-hole Pro-Am format around Thorpeness’ James Braid designed heathland course.
“This event is a truly unique opportunity, to spend time with top players in the ladies game, watch them practice and see them in full flow at a great golf course,” said Christine.
The Thorpeness LET Pro-Am is now full but golf fans and spectators are encouraged to make the trip to Suffolk to watch the event free of charge.
Thorpeness hopes to establish the event as an annual fixture in its calendar of open competitions and capitalise on Christine Langford’s outstanding connections within professional golf.
