Award Adds To Celebrations At Royal Dornoch

The general manager of Royal Dornoch Golf Club says success in a national award scheme is a fitting end to a year of celebrations at the internationally-renowned venue.

The club came top in the Best Value For Money (Over £100) category in the recent Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, which are chosen by the public. It was also shortlisted in the best catering category for the second time in three years.

The awards were held as part of the inaugural Scottish Golf Tourism Week, a new networking event designed to increase overseas tourism into Scotland.

Royal Dornoch is part of Highland Golf Links, a partner organisation which promotes golf tourism in the north of Scotland. Castle Stuart Golf Links and the Nairn Golf Club are also HGL members, as well as leading hotels, the Kingsmills and Culloden House, Inverness, and the Royal Golf in Dornoch.

Royal Dornoch has held a series of events this year to mark 400 years of golf being played on the town’s famous links. Its Championship Course, ranked one of the top courses in the world, also staged the Northern Open and in 2018 it will welcome The Boys Home Internationals for the first time.

General manager Neil Hampton said: “We are obviously delighted to have won this award, which is a fitting end to a fabulous year at Royal Dornoch and our 400 year celebrations.

“The recognition is a great tribute to the focus our staff put on customer service in every department to ensure our visitors enjoy the full Royal Dornoch Experience.

“The course, despite poor weather, has been in great condition all year. And with the 400 Years of Golf celebrations running in conjunction with everything else, it’s all come together to make a very exciting and rewarding time.”
